Overcome addiction.
Reclaim your life.

When did life become so overwhelming? You know you want to do better with your life but aren’t sure how. That feeling ends up trapping you in a cycle of guilt, shame, and despair. You turn to something, anything that can take that feeling away for a while, and it seems to work. Until it doesn’t. You start hearing comments from your partner, and your relationship feels like it’s falling apart. Your work is not up to the level it was before. You find yourself more and more isolated. Nobody seems to get what you are going through. At the same time, you look at people who are “addicts” and know you aren’t “one of those people.” This isn’t a problem; it’s just a glass of wine every night. Or two. Or the bottle. It’s fine….

Counseling for People Who Love People With Addiction

If your loved one is struggling with addiction, you may find yourself in need of support. You may feel frustrated, isolated, and hurt as the addictive cycle keeps going. At the same time, you love this person deeply and want to connect with them. You can see the person underneath the behavior, but the behavior can be so painful. We will work together to help you identify your own strengths and resources and begin to make some changes in your own life. You will learn tools to practice mindfulness, build resilience, and set healthy boundaries. We aim to support your journey while you support others who are struggling.

What if I don’t have an “addiction,” I just want help?

Most people who misuse substances (or behaviors) don’t meet the criteria for a clinical diagnosis of a substance use disorder. That being said, most addiction theories consider any behavior that a person keeps going back to, regardless of the negative consequences, as an addiction. Maybe you can control yourself, but you need some new skills “just in case.” Maybe you are curious about why we put chemicals in our bodies that are meant to break down cells. Maybe you are tired of the hangovers from the nights out with your friends, or you find yourself lying to your loved ones about drinking in secret, or you can’t imagine watching a movie without a glass of wine next to you. At our counseling center, you will never be labeled an “addict,” never questioned if something is actually a “problem,” and never forced to consider sobriety as the only way to be “okay.” Your journey is your own. We are here to help you unpack your goals and create a life you are excited about being present for.

Openings for addiction counseling are available in-person in Fort Collins, Colorado, and over telehealth for any residents of Colorado. Schedule your first appointment today, or visit our contact page to find more information.
